who saved
who made the world

remain in my love - 4

abide within Christ
remain in my love
connect, more than that,
part of one whole
remain in my love
my friends, my sheep
my sisters, my brothers
intertwined, brazed,
remain in my love always
married to the cross
grafted to the vine

the strings of gossamer

her gaze given a new focus
ensnared in strings of gossamer
obscuring the body of Christ
in the words of the spider
speaking in lines that she drew
painted on her face
the visage of sadness set off
in the strings of gossamer

a smell of incense
in the white smoke
days of waiting at an end
their sorrow turned to joy
at the choosing of the pope
those gathered in the square
a new vicar in the chair
a new shepherd for the flock

under the sod and dew

the refrain, the meter
the solemnity, the tribute
a balanced meditation
praying for Memorial Day
so many in the ground
under the sod and dew
so many of our best, our youth
too soon for the tomb

Love personified

love, in many forms,
of intimacy, of friendship
all kinds of love
familial, attraction
Love personified
becoming a proper noun
like Wisdom, the nature of God
blessed be God’s name

Love took my hand

the poet’s words so true
God coming to us
touching our lives, changed
helping to guide us through it
“Love took my hand”,
my life transformed
storm clouds abated
God got me through it.

raised from the grave – 2 – v4

above the waters,
above the dust
in the heavens
joined with Christ

from the waves, the chaos
lost in the world
raised from the grave
to walk with Christ

held by his hand
raised from the depths
onto the waters
safe on the waves

the dove descended, among us – v4

shattering the divide
the wall we had placed between us
the skin of the temple
the box in which we meet

God’s Spirit fell from the stained glass
bodily present with us

the dove descended, seated
sharing the pew with them
here in the sanctuary
abiding with us

the edge of the robe – v3

merely the gauze of the covering
the edge of the robe
the fringe of the garment
what the woman touched

more than enough
how she was healed
made whole, restored
by that touch

we are but the fringe
the edge of that fabric
wearing Christ upon us
his Spirit within
